Today, we are launching Dokumentli®, a highly specialized Vision-Language Model (VLM) for processing European business documents. It classifies and reads documents with high precision and was designed specifically for use on-premises, in the private cloud, or in fully air-gapped networks.
Our benchmarks across a wide variety of European document types clearly show: Dokumentli® significantly outperforms conventional frontier LLMs in classic document tasks in terms of accuracy and speed.
A new paradigm in document automation
Until now, an unwritten rule applied in the industry: Those who wanted the highest accuracy had to rely on the cloud APIs of specialized providers. Those who had to stay on-premises for data protection or security reasons had to compromise on quality.
As of today, this rule no longer applies.
Dokumentli® processes the volume of an average company (up to 1 million pages per month) on a single GPU with 24 GB of VRAM—meaning on standard hardware that fits into any server room. Upwards, scaling is almost limitless: With more powerful cards and across multiple nodes, throughput increases linearly. As a result, the cost per processed page drops into a completely new, far more economical dimension compared to classic cloud APIs.
Such a specialized model that beats frontier models while operating resource-efficiently locally is a novelty in the market.
Digital sovereignty as strategic risk management
With the AI Act coming into force, regulatory requirements for the traceability of AI systems are increasing massively. At the same time, the changed geopolitical situation has turned the question of data sovereignty from a mere compliance consideration into a central strategic issue.
The question of where sensitive data is stored and who has access to it in an emergency is no longer only asked by data protection officers, but increasingly by executive boards and supervisory boards. Digital sovereignty is no longer a political buzzword today, but essential risk management.
From cloud-native to local excellence
In 2021, Parashift established the first consistently cloud-native, AI-first enterprise platform for document processing. Against industry-wide skepticism, we successfully executed this paradigm shift; today, hundreds of companies process their workloads via our highly secure cloud product.
Today, we are taking the next step: With Dokumentli®, we are offering the first on-premises model that uncompromisingly meets the requirements of European companies in the four decisive dimensions: speed, accuracy, cost-efficiency, and sovereignty.
A powerful model – seamlessly integrable
Dokumentli® is deliberately designed purely as a model, not as a replacement for existing end-to-end platforms. It does not provide its own user interface and no validation workflows—tasks that established ECM, workflow, and IDP systems already solve excellently.
To make deployment as efficient as possible, Dokumentli® is delivered with an out-of-the-box container setup. Our internal tests have shown that the complete setup typically takes only 30 to 60 minutes. The connection itself is then seamless via an OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions API. Anyone already using a language model in RPA pipelines, ERP systems, or agentic workflows today can make the switch with minimal effort.
We explicitly invite industry peers and platform providers to strategic cooperation. Those who want to offer their customers sovereign document processing in regulated environments will find the missing key component in Dokumentli®.
An opportunity for European data centers and hyperscalers
Providers of sovereign AI services in Europe need models within their own perimeter and use cases with real volume. Document processing is exactly such a use case. Dokumentli® can easily be provided as a service on one’s own infrastructure. We are open to strategic partnerships in the DACH region and throughout Europe.
Our ambition: Radical innovation
Over the past year and a half, we have strongly focused on platform stability, scaling, and customer acquisition. This was necessary, but temporarily led to our role as an innovation driver being less visible to the outside world. But our company name is an obligation: We firmly believe that only continuous, technological leaps move a tech company forward. Today, we are once again fulfilling this commitment.
With Dokumentli®, we are literally just at the beginning. We currently have a data pool of millions more proprietary document records that we will gradually integrate into the training corpus over the coming months. This means: The performance we are delivering today is merely the baseline – the model will still grow massively in terms of precision and depth. In addition, industry-specific versions for banking, insurance, and healthcare are already in development. Customized models, e.g., for large insurance companies, are also possible on a project basis.
Available immediately
Dokumentli® is available starting today for use on-premises or in the private cloud. Later on, we will offer a Parashift-operated cloud API in the compliance zones of Germany, the EU, and Switzerland.
You can test the model on playground.parashift.io.
