Parashift/Document separation
Capability · Separation

Document separation without separator sheets or barcodes.

A scan stack rarely holds a single document. Parashift detects the document boundaries by content and splits the stack into individual documents, each with its own type and its own fields.

The process today

Separator sheets are a workaround, not a method.

Anyone scanning stacks today inserts separator sheets or sticks on barcodes. That costs time before scanning and regularly goes wrong: one forgotten sheet and two documents merge into one.

For post arriving from outside, the workaround does not work at all. A file that comes by email or portal has no separator sheets. Someone has to split it on screen, page by page.

What it covers

What the separation does.

Boundaries by content

The boundary is found in the content, not through an inserted sheet or a barcode.

Type per sub-document

Every document that is split out receives its own type and therefore its own fields.

Multi-page documents stay together

A three-page invoice is kept as one document, not as three separate pages.

Review interface for corrections

Where a boundary is unclear, a person corrects it on screen. The correction flows back into the model.

Works with fax and poor scans

Skewed pages, marks and fax quality are the norm in real mailrooms.

No preparation effort

The stack goes into the scanner exactly as it sits on the desk.

How it works

From stack to individual documents.

01 · INTAKE

Stack in any order

Scan, combined PDF or email attachment with many documents.

02 · SEPARATION

Document boundaries

The system determines where one document ends and the next begins.

03 · CLASSIFICATION

Type per sub-document

Every document that is split out is categorised.

04 · HANDOVER

Individually to the target system

Each document moves on separately, with page range and extracted fields.

Separation is the first step.

First the stack falls apart into individual documents, then type and fields are determined. Together that is the digital mailroom.

Frequently asked

Document separation, answered briefly.

How does Parashift know where a document ends?
From the content of the pages. The system assesses whether a page belongs to the preceding document or starts a new one. It needs no separator sheets, barcodes or fixed page counts.
What is the difference between page separation and document separation?
It is the same problem from two angles. The decision is made at each page transition, the result is complete documents with a start and an end.
Can we keep using separator sheets?
Yes. Where separator sheets or barcodes are present they are taken into account. They are simply no longer required.
What happens when the separation is wrong?
The place is put forward for review. A person corrects the boundary in the interface and the correction flows back into the model.
Does this work with faxes and poor scans?
Yes. Fax quality, skewed pages and handwritten additions are the norm in real mailrooms and are part of the processing.
How do the separated documents reach our systems?
Through a documented REST API or webhooks. Each document is handed over individually, with document type, page range and the extracted fields.
