Gym membership and health courses are some of them. Only certain complementary insurances contribute to the costs. Due to the rather small volume, insurance companies usually have not integrated any automation for the processing of these claims documents. This leads to manual typing of data from gym bills and results in slow claims processing.

Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) eliminates manual processes and long turnaround times. IDP enables insurance companies to automate the processing of low-volume claims documents, such as invoices from gyms and various health courses, such as Pilates, Zumba and yoga.

In this blog series for insurance companies, we will look at different claims documents for which Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) can be used to automatically extract the relevant data for insurance companies.

In part 02 of the ‘Insurance blog series‘ we took a closer look at the automated processing of TARMED invoices.

In part 03 of the ‘Insurance blog series’, we look at the automated processing of gym bills.

Gym bills vary in layout

Since every major and minor, public and private gym has their own invoices, the formats and layouts vary greatly. After signing up for a gym or health class membership, clients submit their bill to their complementary insurance provider. By mail, online via the customer portal, or directly as a photo via the insurance company’s app.

Integrated OCR solutions at insurance companies are usually based on templates. This makes them too weak for automated processing of semi-structured or completely unstructured claims documents such as gym bills.

IDP, on the other hand, does not work with templates. At the heart of IDP’s capabilities is the ability to handle constantly changing document layouts.

With IDP: Insurance companies read out gym bills automatically

The integration of IDP allows insurance companies to fully automate claims processing. As shown in the example photo from the platform, all data relevant to the insurance company is automatically read from the gym’s bill, in this case for a Pilates membership. Insurance companies can then further process this extracted data using business logic.

With IDP, the following data is automatically read from the gym’s bill:

Contact: First and last name, address

Invoice header: Date of invoice, invoice number, VAT number, ZSR number, language, currency and total amount of the invoice

Line items: Detailed items of the invoice (here in the example from the platform: Pilates subscription 1 year, 1x/week)

No-Code App for individual customizations to gym bills

When there are additional, specific requirements for a claims document, in this case for invoices from fitness studios or health classes such as Pilates, Zumba or yoga, insurance companies can use the No-Code App to easily make independent customizations to the document type.

In Part 04 of the ‘Insurance blog series’, we go into detail about the automated processing of optician invoices with IDP.

Book a demo

Follow us on LinkedIn to get the latest IDP News.

Insurance companies do not cover all services.
